Allotment Gardening Culture

2013-07-03 13.44.41Allotment gardening is growing in popularity all the time.  People use their allotments in the same way they use their gardens.  They are not just for growing veg.

People have seating areas, sheds, barbeques, ponds, green houses, polytunnels, chickens and of course grow vegetables.

It’s a great way of learning because there are always seasoned gardeners about to watch and talk to.

Seed and plant swapping and also trading produce is a brilliant way to keep your costs down and make sure that a bumper crop does not go to waste.

I have heard it said that there are more allotments per capita in our town than anywhere else in the country.  Not sure if this is true, but there certainly are a lot of allotments!
